Not sure if the header is even needed really, I could just have a heat exchanger. The injector pump is powerful enough to suck it from the back but one would probably need largish diameter lines and I didn't want to unnecessarily load up the injector pump as they are expensive!

I take coolant from the heater line in parallel with the heater. The pressure drop in the heater core seems to be enough to force some coolant through the other route. The heater still works fine too. I considered a fully heated system but if you use good oil it is not really needed. Also, the more coolant lines and joins there are the more risk of leaking coolant so reliability can be an issue. Even if you do a really nice job, there are likely to be reliability issues that need to be worked through, so everything you can do to increase reliability is all good.

Instrumenting the system is a very good idea too so have an indicator light to tell you when the pump is running or the heater is on etc. A vacuum gauge after the filter is essential and cheap.

As far as purge oil going back into the tank... It is a very small amount. The veg oil system is no good for short trips so there is still a fair bit of running on diesel. The warm up period consumes some as well. Even at 20% oil in the tank I think the car would probably still start fine so I haven't let it worry me. My car is an age and model that could have problems with the low sulphur diesel and one guy I talked to reckons that a bit of vege oil in the diesel would help to stop the seals shrinking. I don't have any supporting evidence for this though.

Drop me an email if you want to have a look at my car or talk further. felix collins at yahoo dot com. I was thinking of having my system set up so the filter, fuel lines and tank is heated by coolant then just letting the fuel pump suck up the fuel. Do you take coolant from the heating system, how to you force it to go through your added cooling sustem?
Thanksandrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15148270785142196445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-45135540503252043.post-11611261819334122452008-09-07T18:42:00.000-07:002008-09-07T18:42:00.000-07:00What is the purpose of the header tank, isn't the ...What is the purpose of the header tank, isn't the injector pump strong enough to suck it from the tank in the back?andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15148270785142196445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-45135540503252043.post-3677922586756944412008-09-07T18:32:00.000-07:002008-09-07T18:32:00.000-07:00hi, im from christchurch and am thinking of conver...hi, im from christchurch and am thinking of converting a car to run on wvo.
How much of an issue do you think it is that wvo flows back into your disesl tank in the purge cycle.andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15148270785142196445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-45135540503252043.post-45522229177357230332008-09-03T08:31:00.000-07:002008-09-03T08:31:00.000-07:00Hi Felix...You may not look at this blog any more ...Hi Felix...
You may not look at this blog any more but I just thought I'd let you know I found your projects interesting.
